Dulce de leche Swirled Amaretto Frozen Yogurt

My waffle bowl found a friend.

It was my first time buying Balkan style yogurt, and I really liked it. The taste reminds me of the yogurt I used to eat in Vietnam. The tang tastes different than other full-fat yogurt sold in stores. There's no thick layer of yogurt breath on the tongue after you eat it. Or maybe it's just me...

Even though the 6% Balkan style yogurt is thick, I still drained it before making, and overnight, about 1-1.5 cup of liquid was collected.

Dulce de leche swirled Amaretto Frozen Yogurt
(by Tram)
  • 1 tub of vanilla Balkan style yogurt, 650g
  • 1-2 tbsp of amaretto cream (keep cold)
  • 2 tbsp of dulce de leche, or caramel, or a few caramel squares
Drained the yogurt overnight: line a big sieve with cheese cloth or 3 layers of paper towels, and hang it over a big bowl that holds everything. Make sure the bottom of the sieve doesn't touch the bowl. Put the yogurt in the lined sieve. Cover & keep in the fridge.

When ready, mix the amaretto into the yogurt & churn in your ice cream maker as according to the manufacturer's instruction.

Slightly warm the dulce de leche, or caramel in the microwave for 30 seconds. Or if you have caramel squares, you can melt them & let cool down a few minutes. When yogurt is done churning, layer drizzles of dulce de leche into the yogurt and store in the freezer.

Enjoy a scoop or 2, but I'm warning you, it's addictive!!!

Green tea frozen yogurt

Yup, it's exactly what the title says.... Green tea frozen yogurt! YUM!

I found this recipe on Sticky, Gooey, Creamy, Chewy who got the basis from David Lebovitz, one of my favorite chefs, whose book "The Perfect Scoop" I just bought yesterday, aaaaahhhh!!!!! (I'm so happy!!!!)

...*catching my breath*...

(I only had full-fat yogurt, not Greek, so I drained it over night. And I also halved the recipe because I only had 2 cups of yogurt left)

Matcha Frozen Yogurt
by Sticky, Gooey, Creamy, Chewy
  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 1/2 cup sugar (I used powdered sugar because I was paranoid that it wouldn't dissolve)
  • 1 Tbsp matcha powder

Mix everything together until completely blended. Chill in the fridge for a few hours then churn the mix in the ice cream machine* as according to the manufacturer's instruction.

Freeze & enjoy. I know I couldn't stop...

*(If you don't have an ice cream maker, the beat-it-every-30-minutes-for-3-hours will probably work. I made vanilla ice cream like that once and it worked perfectly well)

I'm off to go buy more yogurt for my next batch.

Strawberry frozen yogurt pops

Today was the first day of 2009 that I was able to walk outside without a jacket. The sun was out and about doing its thing. It was wonderful!!! The bar terraces were completely packed with people drinking & staff running around like chickens without heads.

I literally had to duck and hop through a sea of mini micro skirts and "wifebeater" tank tops on my way home.

So let's celebrate the nice weather with a really quick & simple-to-make treat.

Strawberry frozen yogurt:
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (If you can find any, if not just drain the water out from full-fat yogurt)
  • 1 cup strawberry, chopped
  • 1-2 tbsp of honey, depending on how sweet the strawberries are
Whiz everything together in a blender and pour into molds. Keep in freezer for an hour or two before serving.

You can also use other fruits. I think berries are best.

I got these pop molds from the dollar store. Good stuff!!!
